Wonder31 #1: Minimal

“I am a minimalist. I like saying the most with the least.”
Bob Newhart

The new series of prompts has begun and we're off to the races, as they say. I know that you guys are going to laugh when you see my interpretation of this prompt. Because I'm probably the only person who would think that my journal page is actually minimal by any stretch of the imagination.

In my mind, I toyed with a bunch of ideas for this first prompt. I thought of min vs. max in mathematical terms, minimum, minimalist, and bare minimum. The Minimalism movement in art. Per Wikipedia, "Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, where the work is set out to expose the essence, essentials or identity of a subject through eliminating all non-essential forms, features or concepts."

On my journal pages my quest is typically closer to more-more-more collage so this was a good opportunity to hold back and see what I could do. My forte is not minimalist. But see? Only three {visible} bits of collage!

So my thought for this prompt is that it's all relative. What seems minimal to me could theoretically seem wild & crazy to you. The prompt urged me to reduce something, simplify something about my work. Prompts are in many ways very personal in that the word or phrase clicks with something in our own experience, our own ecosystem, our own frame of reference.

Here's an index to all of the Wonder31 Prompts. I'm thinking that I'll post either my thoughts on each prompt or an interpretation thereof each day. Not sure if I will keep up with one per day, but that's the flexible option, the no stress option. Get some art into your days, OK?
