Rock a Paradigm Shift

“It's not hard to decide what you want your life to be about. What's hard, she said, is figuring out what you're willing to give up in order to do the things you really care about.”

What will you do in the year ahead? Not resolutions. Just an area of focus. Or two.

This is my first little collage of the year... stitched on a 3x5" index card divider {the color and weight of a manila folder}. I'm going to create 365 of SOMETHINGS. I'll start with collage. It might morph into pillowcases or paintings or pumpkin carving for all I know. And by the way, Hanna is doing this 365 collages challenge where she is challenging us to make 365 somethings. I like that idea.

{Note: There's now a fancy new Flickr group for 365 Somethings: Please join us!}

Many people will focus on a specific WORD for 2013, one word to remind us where to focus, how to be, what project to do next. I have to tell you the truth here, I just cannot figure out my word for the year ahead. So just in case one word doesn't sum up your year ahead, you can pick a few. It will be our little secret. Or you can share your MULTIPLE words in the comments. I'm never scared to go against the grain. And I might still pick one word, I am working on that.

CHANGE is my word for 2012. I know what from and the possibilities of what to, so perhaps DO IT would be more appropriate words! Thanks for your inspiring blog.

A single word wouldn't work for me, but this year I am practicing (notice not resolving) being present. REALLY being present in my moments, not just attending them. I think I'm going to need all the help I can get there!

I'm going to try to explore "happiness" for this challenge in all of its permutations (hope that gives me some wiggle room ;-)

I adore all the different elements in your collage as well as the index label "C" (for collage?) The stitching really adds energy to the work, like a bee's dance enticing all that view it to follow along.

I think my word for 2013 is 'Play', as in dabble, experiment, 'what if'... I am finding a lot of different things I want to try out, so I plan to 'play' with them to see if I like them. So far, I have dabbled with dye-na-flow and Batik-EZ and flip & sew. I have purchased a bunch of stencils and stamps, and some Jacquard Lumiere textile paints, as well as screen print ink and india ink and pen. I am also eyeing a watercolor pen, and I just ordered a DVD on Applique quilts... need I say more? I've got some serious playtime in my future! Happy 2013!

I chose EMPOWER as my word. I want to believe in myself more, build my confidence, make changes, and more.

Lots of words inform every year and every day. But I think if you do find one to be your 'word' for the year, you will be surprised at how it comes to play in many ways throughout a year. Nothing wrong with going your own way though!

I choose Stretch as my word. I have a few others that I also want to work with:
I have Choices, Think Positive, Spend time with people who feed my soul, Laugh more..

I'm sure others will come to mind as the year goes on...

Love your collage! Great list of words - lots to work with.
My word though is Joy - I was finding pain and work were dragging me down and I wasn't finding the joy around me.
I have already started my 365 - just create daily. Love it.

You've inspired me to write a post and to join the 365 movement!

I wa having the same conundrum because I had chosen Play, but that's really only a word for my art life and wanting to experiment with new materials and subjects... but actually reading this helped me combine that goal with my other goals in my head. I'm deciding on Explore. (I think.) :)

Love the list Tammy - words to play by! I don't know if I can keep to the 365 somethings once the school year begins however I will keep track of how many somethings and what . . . that will be an interesting journal page in itself.

As for the word? Content, noun and verb, as in what my life contains and being content with who I am right now, right here. It's another day on sunshine, bird song, cicadas and surf . . . I'd have to be crazy not to be content!

When I was thinking about my word for the year, I couldn't settle on just one. Two words kept coming back to the front of the line so I decided to keep them both: Simplicity and Balance. They will both work for my personal, professional and artful life.
Happy new year!
Sophie

O_O

Man I need to try this!!! Iv'e been lurking places finding more infor on 365 things... and I think I'm going to try two actually! A art one... (I havn't decided wether ATC's or Collages) and a writing one. I may do the poe a day, but probally instead i'll just write a "somehting" evry day, wether a poem, drabble, short story thingy... etc. I have a box of prompts for writing to draw from, and for art i'm going to do this: I ahve this little kid dictionary, and a little kid book of adjectives. Evry day i'll close my eyes, open to a page and point to a word in whichever book (i'll go off and on). if iv;e done it i'll re do it but if its new than thats the prompt! It is really hard but gets you thinkin! Today I got "Spider" and had to intepret it differently. I made a web! Anyhow i'm blabbing but thanks for posting this! You've inspired me!

My Word for the Year is:

Enjoy

I will have the full use, pleasure, benefit and satisfaction in some things, circumstances, and conditions.

And the possibilities are: Balance, Enough, nourish, consistent, purge, sparkle, routine
Need to muse on them a while to decide if just one or several or one per quarter . . . .

I still don't quite get the word meaning part. One word to use in all this years collages?

{Response from Tammy}: Someone, A lot of folks select a word-of-the-year, something started by Ali Edwards perhaps? So the words are just what came to my mind as potential words to focus on for the year. But I simply cannot focus on just one.

Clarity is the word of the year for me. I love all of your action words above!! Perhaps I'll find some clarity in them. I'm still pondering the 365 challenge....oh, it's getting harder and harder to resist...
