Peacock Feathers

"The most beautiful discovery true friends make
is that they can grow separately without growing apart."
~Elisabeth Foley

My creative friend (aka Idea Girl) visited from Georgia this week, and an afternoon chat turned into an impromptu art play date. Techncally the first time I walked someone through journaling "live" AND Idea Girl's first experience with art journaling. We talked for hours, through coffee, paninis, paint, Mod Podge, collage, dinner and beyond. Not sure if this meets the definition of Crafternoon, but certainly a creative afternoon. She's off on a jet plane, so... back to my little pretend breakfast table studio.

We worked with 9x12" Strathmore watercolor paper. I started my page by globbing goopy paint brushes of white gesso around the page, followed by fluid acrylics and surrounded by neocolors. Idea Girl painted delicate swirls in Pthalo Blue, plus concentric neocolor rainbows. I glued bits from catalogs, abstract paintings and other junk to my page and edged with neocolors. Idea Girl added cuttings and edged as well. Her page reminds me of peacock feathers, and I love how the saturated blue brush strokes look layered behind the images + words. Fun for hours...

Tell me about your artful big-people play dates!

*Ingrid, I'm with you... my local circle of friends are not the arty-painterly type and yes it would be fun to be able to do this again! The good news is that Idea Girl is excited to add art and color back to her life. But she lives 1000's of miles away:(

* Terri, Unfortunately not so...
