Patchwork Case

“Someday, somewhere - anywhere, unfailingly, you'll find yourself, and that, and only that, can be the happiest or bitterest hour of your life.”
Pablo Neruda

Inside, you can see the burlap fabric.

As if I didn't have enough to do just before we left for Italy, I decided it would be good to have a case to protect the ipad en route. And to be honest, it was a relief from the stress of tying up loose ends and packing, to have a little colorful creative project to work on in little gaps of time. And isn't that one of the great things about doing creative things each day, to balance out the OTHER STUFF that happens in life.

I had an abundance of patchwork pieces stitched together for an as-yet-unknown-purpose which was perfect for the project. So I started in my typical way - without planning - without measuring - and stacked the patchwork piece, a piece of white felt, and a piece of burlap fabric to make a "sandwich" and quilted all of that together with a random swirlie pattern. I only broke three needles. The quilting shop suggested "super sharp" needles for working with paper, and I forgot that's all I had, and frankly super sharp needles don't like denim.

For the flip-over top flap, I cut more of the blue jeans I'd used for the blue jean camera cases and added some pretty rainbow fabric. Stitched on the velcro and it was finished. It worked perfectly, and a moleskine fit inside as well. And I get so happy when I look at it, knowing that I made it myself!

Most of my best projects have been done when I was really supposed to be doing something else. It adds energy to the creativity juice. Gets things flowing. I love the bag and love that you just happened to have this wild patchwork lying around - the perfect thing. Can't wait to see more about your trip!

How clever are you!! Love the colours and style of this. I need to learn more about my machine. And what needles go with what project. It might give me more confidence.
