    extraordinary. not.

    {reposted from May 2013, i just needed to say it again}

    “I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it's true I'm here, and I'm just as strange as you.”
    Frida Kahlo

    The beauty of creating art simply for the sake of creating art is that you gradually learn to focus on the process of making. Not the rules. Not the right-wrong thing. Not whether this matches that. Just the doing. The joy and flow. My mantra. Create simply for the sake of creating.

    It doesn't have to be extraordinary.

    Thank you. I needed to hear this today. I am in the process of procrastinating over a project due this Wednesday for a blog hop and I keep trying to add the WOW factor. But ya know what....it doesn't have to have a WOW it just needs to be done. well.....maybe it needs a little wow. Love the Frida Quote
    Happy Monday !

    I think one of the most amazing things about the internet is how it has let is find the ones who are strange like us. :)

    I agree, create for the sake of creating. Trying to make something extraordinary is when I get blocked of ideas usually.

    always enjoy the beautiful quotes you put on your posts!! Sometimes the extraordinary art is IN the ordinary art....Sometimes I find myself loving a piece in my art journal which is a place just to create....whatever.....more than a piece that I am laboring over for a reason....oh and by the way.....
    just 3 weeks til ICAD!!!!!!! :) *YAY*

    YES!! The magic is in the process!! I tell my students this all the time: forget the rules, forget expectations, just create!! It's only through the process where the ideas are born.

    Oh, And the quote you used above? One of my faves by one of my favorite artists!
    (Have you read "Frida" by Hayden Herrerra? Awesomeness!!)

    Wonderful quote and wonderful advice... We should be as the decadent Oscar Wilde and create art for art's sake, just because, forgetting all rules and norms... And just: Enjoy.

    I do! I do! I wake up thinking about art, I go to sleep thinking about art. I avoid cooking, cleaning and all that other stuff because I want to create! I need more hours in the day! :0)

    I am also getting into the space of creating for the pure enjoyment of it, not to plan an outcome, and I am enjoying this all more in knowing that there is someone as strange as me out there!

    I love the quotes and your thoughts behind them. Thank you!

    SO TRUE! The hardest part is just showing up and letting go. The process is the powerful part. BRAVO! By the way, LOVE that watercolor!
