Creative Experiments #8: January

"Housework is a treadmill
from futility to oblivion
with stop-offs at tedium
and counter productivity."
~ Erma Bombeck

Join the Creative Experiments challenge.

Here's how it works!

  1. Each month, I will post a list of Creative Experiments to consider
  2. Decide how many Experiments you want to do, this is your personal goal
  3. Work toward your personal goal

The January Experiments
Daisy Yellow

For tracking purposes, each experiment is valued at one creativity point unless otherwise noted.

♥ Develop a mind map on any topic
♥ Make & send a handmade card to a soldier, friend, teacher or family member
♥ Play a card or board game with other real people (i.e. clue, crazy eights, apples to apples, scrabble, gin rummy, chess, bridge, scattergories, chinese checkers, monopoly, etc.) (on-line doesn't count)
♥ Read 1 book just for you, not for school/work
♥ Alter a recipe you frequently make
♥ Attend a brainstorming group or book club meeting
♥ Do something creative at a library, book store, cafe or restaurant (i.e. knit, draw, write)
♥ Write down a quote and share it with a friend
♥ Make or update an inspiration board for your home/ studio
♥ Gesso a piece of art and start over again
♥ Write/Update/Make Progress on a 101 Things in 1001 Days List (at the Day Zero site you can build and track progress on your own list)
♥ Create one art journal page, from background to journaling

It's important to note that we aren't competing; we are each challenging ourselves to add more creativity to our lives, one month at a time. Check out all of the creative experiments for ideas & inspiration.

[As a reminder, please do not copy/paste the experiments to your site, as excited as you are to do them, as they are copyright Daisy Yellow. Please link back to the list if you wish and of course post your experiments to share!]

Sounds like fun. Some of those things are easy enough for me to do but I'll try for the harder ones.

Ok, this being a crazy, moving to AK month I think I will start out slow and make a goal of 8 pts. I should be able to handle that much. Next month I should be able to push myself harder. Thanks!

Theresa, Wishing you a safe & smooth move north! I look forward to photographs and art inspired by your experiences in Alaska. ~ Tammy

I've already done four of those and it's only the 4th!
Can't wait to see what Creative Experiments you come up with each month...very inspiring!

I just found your fantastic blog thanks to diysara on Twitter. How did I miss it for so long? It really is an inspiration and I hope to try some of your challenges. I had already moved my set of watercolour paints out from a cupboard and into my study again. Now I just need to open them and add water! What a great a
amount of time you must put into this blog- thank you.

So far, I did the "Do something creative at a library, book store, cafe or restaurant" assignment. Friday night, I went to a cafe and drew a mandala and a zentangle. I enjoyed it very much.

What a fun idea. I am now participating.

I'm learning to do mandalas, inspired by Stephanie Smith at Spiritual Evolution of the Bean. I did one yesterday and am working on another today with my new markers. Yesterday at Border's I did my daily free writing at 750 words for my full quota.

In the past week I did two of the experiments: "Play a card or board game with other real people" and "Read 1 book just for you, not for school/work." The game I played with a couple of kids and the book was from the Sookie Stackhouse series.

Just two from this list: played CLUE with the kids, and created one art journal page! ~ Tammy

I don't know if this counts but last night I did one of my usual recipes but instead of cooking it in the stove, I did it in my slow cooker for the first time.

Love your ideas.....I am also a fan of Lynne Perella and Teesha Moore - but have had a creative block for a little while. Now when I want to try again, and want to print your ideas so I can have a go...the printer won't work which is very frustrating.....
