Cotton Goodness

So I've been attempting to crochet with Crochet School at Crafty Minx. Dana's videos and posts are lovely. I'd been frustrated by "sewing into the chain" and in the comments lovely reader Sam suggested that I use a larger hook on the chain row and then go back to the original hook for the remainder and it worked brilliantly. I wouldn't do it any other way now. I used a K hook for the chain and an E hook for the rest.

Did you know that cotton yarn is beautiful? I'm allergic to wool, cannot touch it, so we ordered cotton yarn from KnitPicks {GREAT service on our shipment, by the way}. I will do stitches in straight rows for scarves, but because it's repetitive and hand intensive I think that will be enough crochet for me.

The cotton yarn is beautiful and photogenic.

Yay! The SEVENTH DAY of Art Every Day Month at Creative Every Day.

Very beautiful! If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, you should check out their store brand of yarn called "I love this Cotton" or something to that effect. Hands down, best cotton Ive touched. Super soft and it comes in some gorgeous, lush colors. I usually knits/crochet my dishcloths with cotton yarn, never thought to make anything else. Gives me some ideas.

Besides wool and cotton, there are a lot of fun yarns available. I've worked with bamboo and have some soy yarn waiting to be made into socks. I love how smooth the bamboo yarn feels. I'm a knitter but I love those zig-zaggy patterns I see crocheted. And I know what you mean about hand intensive. I made a very heavy, thick-yarn scarf last December that gave me hand cramps for days. I've never had that issue with the lighter weight sock yarns I typically use.

I love that color yarn, it looks so soft. Have you tried alpaca yarn? It is suppose to be hypo-allergenic and is by far the softest yarn i've come across. I'm with you on the repetitive and intenseness of crochet. I have to this day only created one scarf, I wish I had the patience. Good luck though! Yay on day 7!

♥ {Tammy} My sensitivity to wool is not a reaction to the itchiness but rather it causes migraine and other yukky stuff. Since cotton yarn is wonderful, I'm hesitant to try alpaca. I will look for bamboo and soy yarns, very interesting. I got cotton yarn, cotton-linen blend and cotton-beech wood blend yarns and they are all lovely! It's difficult when I inadvertently touch wool at a store or when someone wearing a wool coat/sweater hugs me!
