The line of the Slicci isn't permanent right away, so that allows you to paint your work and let the color from the pen intermingle with your watercolors. A very pleasing effect.

I love blending marker/pen colors. I didn't get it at first because I can be very caught on using tools in their "correct" way, but after seeing how people use material to fit their needs (rather than the other way round), I have found so much fun with experimenting and exploring. Back to being a kid. I've also enjoyed discovering mandalas from your examples and links, so thanks for that.
