Art on the Walls
Thu, June 24, 2010 at 01:00AM "Cinema is a matter of what's in the frame and what's out."
~ Martin Scorsese

Do you want to know what drives me bonkers? None of the colorful art on our walls hints to the fact that I'm into creating art. The walls seem so permanent, and I can't seem to narrow down what to put up, where to put it, how large to frame it... Amy talked about this in a Creative Mom Podcast (I think it was Episode #139) and I could so relate to it.

For a long time I only displayed my own work in my workspace and limited it to a few pieces. A couple of years ago I found some mattes specifically cut for artist trading cards and framed and matted 9 of my favorite atcs. These framed pieces now hang in my living room instead of living their lives in a three ring binder full of cards on a bookshelf.
Tammy, I know what you mean....just remember whatever you put up there doesn't have to stay there FOREVER! If you get bored with it, or change your color scheme, then take it down and replace it. And what better way to create and replace than with your own custom work. I was into counted cross-stitch for years, so I've always put that sort of thing up.....Later it was quitling and small quilts that I'd display. Now, with the art, I mostly have lots of Photographs up, and some Canvas embroidered pieces that I hand embroidered silhouttes on. See..... http://geeden.blogspot.com/2009/09/family-room-project-1-done.html
Skies the limit, once you put your first piece up....you'll be off and running! Good luck....and take some pics when you do it :D

i'm not sure what you mean. ??
yeah, my home totally reflects my bohemian lifestyle and tastes. i rotate the art (mostly mine) on the walls... the latest piece usually going on the focus wall. i hope to frame or somehow put up some zendoodles at some point, for fun.
*Jeanine, I like the way you look at it as enjoying the art you create rather than it sitting and gathering dust, so to speak. I am thinking that the pieces I put up first should be things that make me especially happy when I look at them.
*Eden, I think you are right. It's the first piece that is the biggest hurdle. I'm not scared to put stuff up, it's the indecision loop about WHAT to put up.
*Monica, All the art on our walls is other people's art! From arts festivals, etc. It's wonderful that you have incorporated your art into your home, your life, so that it's all around you. Awesome.
