Art Journal: Garden Path
Tue, February 24, 2009 at 05:00AM To get started, I followed two prompts from Kick-Start Your Art Journal (Part 2 ): <Photograph> and <Limited Palette>. As I went about my day, I envisioned building a page around one photo and highlighting with the soft pinks of the conflowers. From pale pink bud to rich pink bloom to gray decline, their beauty always surprises me along our garden path.

This is a 9 x 12" loose art journal page on watercolor paper. There's a photograph of coneflowers from our garden, more batik paper, handmade FIMO stamps, neocolors etc. The little circles were stamped with the lid of a pen.
The page is almost finished; I'll add journaling at some point. Art Journal: 35mm was created from the same prompts... a photo and muted tones.
Have you tried doing art journal prompts?

Beautiful!! Are you adding the photo at the beginning and creating around it? or adding it at the end and then over painting to blend it in with the rest?
Cone Flowers are one of my very favorites- they grow well in my garden and the butterflies that come are ever so lovely. Experimenting with different colors/varieties of them each year. The pink flowers remain my favorite. thanks for sharing your art.
Carol, Thank you for the positive feedback!!! I painted the background first, then added the photograph & papers. In the fall we planted white coneflowers in with the existing pinks and I look forward to seeing the summer blooms! ~ Tammy
