Art Journal: Faded Blue
Thu, March 19, 2009 at 05:00AM {collage.gesso}
The simplicity of a collage with a thin layer of white gesso. The images are soft and faded, so there will be more contrast between handwritten journaling, a stamped quote, or some doodles. I could add another layer of gesso to the page or selectively, to set up a journaling spot or make it look even more faded. I find it interesting that the gesso results in desaturating the color, calming the page, giving it a blue look.
This is one of 6 Collages 6 Ways; the final version was completed in June 2009.

Isn't Gesso the best! I love using it to tone down things (the way you've done here), to do gesso resists (a new fav way to use it), just so many things. Love the blue tone it lent to this piece...how cool!

Amazing with gesso can do! I love the stuff! Great demo, Tammy! Hugs :)
I too find it so calming, the blue and how the whole page became blue after the gesso. I will have to try this. Wondering if the gesso will show always as a blue even though the papers are diiferent hues? This could be a very fun exercise.
Thanks
Rosalie
I LOVE the calming effect of the blue. Reminiscent of blue willow dishes, almost.
