13 Non-Art Sites That Spark Creativity
Mon, November 2, 2009 at 04:58PM Inspired by a post at Write Livelihood entitled Non-Writing Blogs That Can Nourish Your Work which was in turn inspired by a post at Fuel Your Writing entitled 6 Non-Writing Blogs You Should Be Reading, I've put together a list of non-artsy sites that boost creativity. Narrowly defining "art" here so that I can share design & photography sites as well.
- The Style Files blogs from The Netherlands about "design and (life) style" across the globe.
- Smashing Magazine pulls together design inspiration, including typography, web design, logo design and beyond, stuff like Inspire Yourself: Favicons.
- Polyvore lets you digitally mix & match fashions to make inspiration boards.
- Creative Liberty writes with a unique perspective on creativity.
- The photography at Color Me Katie defies description; it's fresh, fun, gutsy and innovative.
- Six Revisions design info for web designers but just cool for the rest of us.
- Television Tropes provides a meandering path through conventions such as Everybody Hates Mathematics
- The Visual Dictionary does just that, collecting photographs of words.
- Orangette, technically about food, really it's about stylish photography and lovely words
- Symbols.com searchable by words or description
- Cool Photoblogs hopping through photos in the Top Photoblogs
- I Love Typography because I do
