Daily Paper Prompt #58: Observations {with Less}
Thu, September 27, 2012 at 09:50AM Prompt #58 was designed by Leslie Herger of Comfortable Shoes Studio. Cheers... applause... so take your seats and start observing.

My world gets crazy starting in September. My DayJob starts to take over my life and schedules change and before I know it, I realize I haven’t touched my journal in a week, then 2 weeks. So I simplify. I work with fewer tools like pen, ink, and watercolors. Things I can take with me and journal in quick bursts.
Something I’ve really been digging lately to get a pop of color on my page is to soak a string in watercolor, slap it between two pages of my journal, close the journal and then drag the string out. It leaves behind an interesting and colorful pattern that is great to write and sketch on top of. I can later add more color to isolate writing or drawings.

That brings me to the inspiration part of this post. Something I find endlessly interesting is observing the people and the world around me. I like to record overheard conversations and sketch the things I see in public. I listen and look. Then I write and I sketch.
The best thing with observation is that it’s free, takes no time, and can be fun!
Thank you Less!
Less has a new Zine called Put it on Paper and facilitates the infamous Art Journaling Ning!

what a cool, fun, inspiring idea!!! i want to try the "string thing" as well... very awesome!
(in this case, it wound up being mostly stamped text, but i like the idea of taking a real life observation and recording it!)
